AI HYDRA 52 HD LED
This range of LED lights from Aqua Illumination are incredible! The Hydra range is a 2 optic and 4 optic unit for the larger aquariums.
The built-in Wi-fi controllability can link these lights together to work as one while having the convenience to control them from any connected device.
Available in Black or White to suit your preference.
2 AI HYDRA 52 HD’s will be required to illuminate this aquarium.
I chose this light specifically because of its cost vs power.
AI Rail Mount System
I’ve selected this mounting system to match the clean lines of the NUVO.
Each kit comes complete with all the hardware to neatly install your LED optics to give you the sleek look you desire.
Trigger Systems 26″ Sapphire
This 26″ sump gives you all the features you could ever want in a sump all contained within a small footprint. Interchangeable filter floss or sock holder, refugium, sensor, and dosing tube holders, adjustable skimmer section, the list goes on.
With the sump being 26″ long it leaves you lots of room in your cabinet stand for all the extras you may wish to add. A 5 gallon bucket for your ATO reservoir is cheap and will fit perfectly in there too.
The Ultra-Reliable return pump from Ehiem is an industry favorite. With a ceramic shaft and ceramic/carbon bearings, these pumps are designed for constant running.
Very quiet and energy-efficient, this pump is perfectly matched to supply your protein skimmer with the most efficient water flow rate for the NUVO.
AquaMaxx Cone S Q2
The AquaMaxx Cone S Q2 is a powerhouse skimmer for its price! Perfectly suited to keeping this sized aquarium free of Dissolved Organic Compounds for even the highest BioLoads.
Fitted with a Super-Reliable Sicce pump with AquaMaxx’s Needle Wheel Impeller. This Skimmer is getting great reviews and rightly so!
A Great Skimmer for a Great Price!
Eheim Jager 300W Thermostat Heater
The Jager range of heaters from Eheim are in my opinion the best heater you can buy. I have been using them for years and it is the only heater I will buy.
The 300W version is perfect for this size tank and sump.
This fantastic product is perfect for use in all aquariums. By combining Premium Activated Carbon, Ion exchanging Resin and Granular Ferric Oxide into one packet of media.
This will keep your water clear from pollutants and help to keep phosphates low.
5 Bottles are required and expected to last 6 months.
This is another fantastic product perfect for use in all aquariums. This works along with the Chemi-Pure to help remove organic pollutants, proteins, nitrates, nitrites, and ammonia.
2 x 100ml bags are expected to last 6 months.
The only way to provide additional surface area for colonizing bacteria in the larger Aquariums.
Adding these super porous blocks will work with your rock and sand to give you the maximum surface area for your bacteria to live in.
2 plates recommended for 175 gallons.
CaribSea Arag-Alive Sand Substrates
Live sand forms the perfect base for your new aquarium. I have always used and recommended the CaribSea Arag-Alive range of substrates as they are packed with Beneficial Bacteria.
My aquarium uses the Fiji Pink Live Sand but everyone has there own preference.
For this aquarium, 120lbs will cover your base by approx 1.5/2″.
See the range by clicking below.
Dry Rock/Live Rock/Life Rock
Rock forms the basis for not only your aquascape but also a place for your Beneficial Bacteria to colonize and form your Bio-Filter.
Creating a habitat for your livestock and a place for your corals to grow on is a fun part of setting up your new aquarium
For this aquarium, a 150lb mix will give you an open swimming space, whereas 200lbs will give you more to play with.
You do not have to use it all!

Instant Ocean Sea Salt Mix
To have a saltwater aquarium you need to have salt mix to turn freshwater into saltwater. There are many, many excellent brands of salt on the market but I have been using Instant Ocean & its Reef Crystals brand for many years and I love it.
I like to recommend Instant Ocean because it comes in a range of sizes to suit every aquarium, it mixes well, it’s very consistent and the pricing is reasonable
For this aquarium you will need 1 cup of salt for every 2 gallons, so around 85-87 cups will be perfect for your initial fill, then you will need more for regular water changes.
Remember you have 150 gallons in the aquarium and 20 gallons in the sump.

T5/LED lighting Upgrade
48″ Hybrid T5/LED Light Fixture
To get the best benefits of two proven lighting technologies you need a Hybrid Light Fixture.
LED’s are a great light for growing corals but their lighting is very directional which can cause shadows under the coral. By adding T5 lights you get full PAR to most places within your aquarium.
This provides more balanced growth and better coloration. This light fixture easily allows you to add 4x 48″ T5 bulbs to your system.
ATI 48″ 54W T5 Bulbs
ATO – Automatic Top-Off System
IceCap Gyre 3K Flow Pump
This is a great water mover for this size of aquarium. The laminar flow created by this Gyre pump will ensure there are no dead spots within your tank and keep every coral and fish strong and healthy.
5 various operating modes, adjustable flow, and a 24 hour timers will ensure you can dial this in perfectly to suit whatever corals you add.
1 may be sufficient for this shape of tank, but 2 may give better flow depending on your aquascape.
Coralife Digital Thermometer
Monitoring your aquarium water temperature is very important.
This small device can sit discretely behind the aquarium and give you an accurate reading each time you walk past the tank.
This one has no alarms to alert you of High or Low Temperature, but is a great addition to help you keep your tank parameters stable.
The above selection of equipment is purely my recommendations for how I would set up the above aquarium. There are many options to chose from in each item category.
